Our Story
Built From a Love of the Craft.
Pirates Cove Cigars grew from a love of cigars, craftsmanship, and the simple belief that the things worth doing are worth learning to do by hand.
What began at a rolling table—learning leaf, blending tobacco, and building cigars one at a time—has grown into something larger. Today, Pirates Cove encompasses original cigar blends, live cigar experiences, and an ongoing effort to understand the craft all the way back to the soil.
THE PHILOSOPHY
No Assembly Line. No Shortcuts.
Every blend starts with the leaf.
Strength, balance, aroma, combustion, and character are developed deliberately, with each cigar bunched, bound, pressed, and wrapped by hand.
We aren’t trying to make every cigar taste the same. Harbor Light, Navigator, and Southern Cross each have their own identity. What they share is the same approach: purpose in the blend and respect for the craft.

THE STORY
From the Rolling Table to the Tobacco Field.
Pirates Cove Cigars didn’t begin with a business plan. It began with a curiosity about the leaf, a desire to understand the craft, and the simple challenge of learning to make a good cigar by hand.
What started at the rolling table became a deeper pursuit. Blending led to questions about where the tobacco came from, how it was grown, how it was cured, and how each part of that journey ultimately found its way into the finished cigar.
THE VIRGINIA LEAF PROJECT
Curiosity Eventually Led Back to the Soil.
The Virginia Leaf Project grew from a simple question: what would happen if we took everything we were learning about tobacco and followed it all the way back to the beginning? Not just selecting the leaf, but growing it, harvesting it, curing it, and eventually turning it into a finished cigar.
That first season became an education in everything the leaf could teach us. There were successes, mistakes, weather, pests, curing problems, and more than a few hard lessons. We lost leaf along the way, but every setback taught us something that couldn’t have been learned from a book or from behind a rolling table.

The Virginia Leaf Project continues today—not because growing our own tobacco is the easiest way to make a cigar, but because understanding the leaf from seed to finished cigar makes us better at the craft.

THE MAKER
Built by Hand. Learned by Doing.
Pirates Cove Cigars grew from a simple obsession with the craft. What began at a rolling table became a pursuit of the leaf itself—how it grows, how it cures, how it blends, and ultimately how all of those pieces come together in a finished cigar.
I learned to roll because I wanted to understand what made a good cigar. That curiosity eventually led beyond the rolling table—to blending, growing tobacco in Virginia, curing our own leaf, and learning from every success and every mistake along the way.
As a U.S. Navy veteran, I’ve carried an appreciation for tradition, discipline, and attention to detail throughout my life. Those same values found a natural home in cigar making—a craft where patience matters, details matter, and there are no shortcuts to doing something well.
Pirates Cove is ultimately about more than making cigars. It’s about craftsmanship, conversation, and creating something worth sharing.

THE COVE
The Craft Is Never Finished.
Pirates Cove is built on curiosity—the belief that there is always something more to learn from the leaf. Every blend, every harvest, and every cigar teaches us something. We aren’t interested in shortcuts or making cigars by formula. We want to understand the craft, respect the tobacco, and keep getting better at what we do.
No Assembly Line. No Shortcuts. Just the Craft.
